MALONE SPRINGS KAYAK

Upper Klamath Canoe Trail

Malone Springs is on the Upper Klamath Kayak & Canoe Trail.. This 15,000 acre freshwater wetlands offers a glimpse into the reasons why the Upper Klamath National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1928. A true jewel of our area, paddling The Trail is a treat you should not miss while in the area. The water is calm with a little movement and is beginner friendly. Possible sightings of  Migrating waterfowl, eagles and osprey , beaver lodges and beautiful views of old growth forest on the looming Pelican Butte are highlights.

We’ll meet at the ROE adventure office located at 29840 Highway 140, Klamath Falls OR 97601 (co-located with Crater Lake Zipline),and prepare you for a fantastic adventure on the wetlands. You’ll follow us in your own vehicle for about 10 minutes to the boat launch located at the Northwest corner of Upper Klamath Lake. After the guides provide a safety briefing and get lifejackets on, we’ll push off to explore the wetland trails.  We’re usually on the water 1.5 to 2 hours.

ROE will provide the kayaks, lifejackets and other gear you need and the guides will bring their knowledge and experience. Our guides are always ready to coach you with paddling techniques as we make our way into this water landscape. The wetlands are fed by springs in the area and the water is calm and cold. Its not ideal for swimming but you are welcome to jump in back at the bank if you’d like. This paddling adventure offers a unique look into a beautiful wetlands area with beaver lodges, Wocus plants and views of the Cascades . Rich with cultural, historic and natural treasures the guides are sure to share all they know about the area with you.

Once we return to the boat launch area you can head back to the ROE office or off to your next adventure.

Plan to have about 3 hours total for this adventure with about two of those hours on the water.
